YG’s new boy group to debut under the name: IKON!
On September 2, Yang Hyun Suk attended the press conference for YG′s new survival program Mix & Match, held at the Conrad Hotel in Yeouido.
"I was thinking about the name of the new group, and the name ′iKON′ came to mind," said Yang Hyun Suk. "Instead of iCON, I replaced the C with K to represent K-Pop, coming up with iKON."
"As a citizen living in South Korea, I hope that iKON will become a group that will represent Korea. I hope that the juniors will be just like Big Bang now or with even better results," said Yang Hyun Suk, revealing his own personal desires.
"I′ve been watching Team B for several years now, and I think they have the original YG colors. They′re kids who enjoy hip-hop. That′s what I personally think. Team B′s leader B.I, Bobby, and Kim Jin Hwan are already fixed members. It will be a system in which the other six will compete with two being eliminated."
Regarding the debut time of iKON, Yang Hyun Suk answered, “I thought early 2015 would be a good time. After the conclusion of Mix & Match, they can work hard for the following two months. Because we have rookies Akdong Musician and Lee Hi, it′s my personal greed as a producer to have Team B start as soon as possible next year and receive a rookie award.”
After giving birth to the talented rookie group, Winner, through WIN: Who is Next in 2013, YG Entertainment will be starting up another boy group survival battle program.
A total of nine will be participating, including Team B′s B.I, Bobby, Kim Jin Hwan, Song Yoon Hyung, Kim Dong Hyuk, Goo Joon Hwae, who unfortunately lost on WIN and had to return to train, and three new trainees, Jung Jin Hyung, Jung Chan Woo, and Yang Hong Seok.
The nine trainees will compete against each other in three different matches. Of the nine, two will be eliminated with a total of seven in the new group. The three fixed members are B.I, Bobby, and Kim Jin Hwan. The remaining four will be chosen through the judges′ votes (30 percent) and the viewers′ vote (70%) following each round.
Mix & Match will broadcast on September 11 through Mnet and Naver.
